Flow Update #7 - Character Spawning
Hey Everyone~
So today I got some work done!
1. So instead of customers living in the world. I have them controlled to spawn in via a spawner.
What currently happens is the spawner will loop through the chapters, then the characters and spawn them in sequence. When they spawn, it'll make a beep sound.
2. Fixed radar spawning with the incorrect rotation by hiding it until the rotation is set correctly in the `_process` method
3. Added a new character named Greg.
One reason is to test the character spawner and ensure that it's working correctly. The other reason is that I want to have characters that try to help build the world via their dialogue. A thing I am immediately seeing is how much should I have characters talk. Too much and I think most players might get turned off. So I am thinking short and snappy. I am thinking maybe next day. I want to make little beep noises for the character when they talk. Right now it's just the one song I have in the background and I feel like there's a lack of feedback when they talk
4. I am still thinking about possible choices the player can make to give the player some agency besides the fact of driving around.
Like for example, if the customer you pick up asks for your opinion on something. Like a place to go to or just talking to them. To make it feel more interactive.
I am still trying to work out what's best for me and this game. So a bit hesitant to do this. Currently, I think adding more interactability would be nice, but then I might have to sacrifice time or a better story for the sake of diverging paths or options a player might choose. But if you have multiple options that lead to the same or close to the same ending. I feel like the options are almost meaningless.
Right now I am thinking maybe it's more like a theme park ride. In most cases you'd probably just do what the customers tell you to do. But I still want to keep that essence of learning the world through dialogue and also showing the world through visuals of the game.
5. Thinking now. I think there are quite a few things I'd like to achieve in this project:
a. Get better at Art
b. Get better at music
c. Get better at writing
d. Get better at designing games.
Why I think this is because when I make games. The main things that stop me is because I don't have the art I want, the music I want etc. etc.
And I think that limits me on how I make games. I think it makes me only be able to make mechanical games. Not necessarily a bad thing. But I think there's more to just being a mechanical game versus something more narrative and/or handcrafted.
Thanks for reading.
Matt.
